Back in the 90s Google appeared in our lives, it is true
that it was not the first web page search engine, read the now-defunct
Altavista, but the one that achieved great popularity and therefore allowed the
boom of web pages.
Attract traffic and earn money
At this point the companies realized that appearing on the first pages of results was a reason to attract traffic and therefore a way to earn money. That is, the owners of the websites began to think about what to do to appear in the top positions of the search engines. Gentlemen, SEO is born.
SEO is the set of techniques
that can be implemented on a web page so that the search engine considers it
relevant and consequently positions it better in the results of a search.
Differentiate from SEM (“Search Engine
Marketing”) which are the results sponsored by search engines such as Google,
where the person who offers the most for a search term appears first on the
results page.
Why do SEO?
A recent study by Chitika stated that the websites that
appear on the first page of results in the Google search engine receive 91.5%,
4.8% for the second page, 1.1% for the third and 1 , 2% between the fourth and
tenth page.
To this, just looking at the first page, the first result
generates 18 times more clicks than the tenth according to a study by Slingshot
SEO. More than 80% of users use search engines to find products
and the information they need. The largest search engine is Google and it is serving more
than a billion daily queries.
According to a latest report by Nielsen, more than 74% of
users use search engines before making a purchase and the percentage of users
using search engines increases every day.
So if you have a website and you want to be visited beyond
your friends and family, you have to bet on SEO (and other online marketing
strategies, but maybe another day).
Okay, I buy it, but how should SEO work?
There are many factors by which browsers position a page,
but the basic factors for web positioning are:
Popularity: or authority, which is basically based on the
user experience, the more content is shared or the more inbound links a website
has, the more relevant it will be considered.
Relevance: It is the relationship that a certain page has
with a search performed, not only the number of times that the word searched,
but also that the page is well optimized for the search engine, that the
content is original or that it has a loading time low.
Broadly speaking, the tasks to be performed are:
- Be aware of our online presence and search engine results.
- Analyze keyword data and trends, track traffic and links to each content to make it fresh and engaging.
- Work with the web development so that each page is optimized for search engines.
- Get links from popular pages without relying on link purchases.
- Avoid Black Hat SEO! that is, trying to better position with "unethical" techniques.
